First Blood is, in fact, worth a trade. It isn’t a mere 4-5 CS difference. It is, in fact, an entire item’s advantage. The difference between 2 Doran’s Items vs 1 is significant enough to dominate an entire lane from that point on. CS difference only applies assuming all other factors are equal, and that most definitely includes what items you have during the laning phase.

In fact, under this criterion, it is better to trade for First Blood than it is to get it safely later. The longer a laning phase goes, the less impacting the starting differential - in fact, grabbing First Blood past the first five minutes necessitates that you immediately head back to base in order to mitigate their item lead.

If you stick around to farm instead, you lose your marginal advantage against your lane opponent(s). Under no circumstances must you ever give up even the slightest advantage. Especially not in a game that encourages snowballing - like League of Legends.

Astoundingly great point. I’m not sure what you mean by two Doran’s items, though. 400g won’t get you another Doran’s item unless you’ve stayed around to farm a couple more minions. Perhaps a Doran’s and T1 boots, which would prove a significant advantage. Again, great point on having an early first blood compared to a later one.

Ah, true. I was kinda writing off the cuff there. But, yes. Don’t underestimate the long-term utility of First Blood.
